It was about a 15 minute helicopter ride to Hardy Reef in the Great Barrier Reef from Whitsunday Island. Being in the helicopter at 3000ft with the doors completely off, feeling the wind from the sheer power of the helicopter’s Rotor system was definitely an uncommon feeling of fear mixed with adrenaline. What I couldn’t believe was how looking down on the ocean would blow my mind and that fear would instantly disappear. Flying over the ocean you can see just how rough it is, yet when entering Hardy Reef it just seems like the current stops and the reef has a protected barrier. It went from dark blue to bright baby blue colours with the reef being mostly calm from wind at the beginning. I could not believe what I was seeing and still feels like a dream. The pilot first flew over the famous Heart Reef and it would be unjust not to capture this amazing natural heart shaped reef.
